Artist Statement

+ The Beginning & The End

My small daily paintings, as well as some elements of my bigger pieces, start with lines or colors made randomly or with my eyes closed. I stare at the lines and shapes until I finally find something, although it’s usually “someone”.

These new imaginary beings translate not only into paintings. The urge to become tridimensional transform them into wall sculptures as well as small standing pieces, both in ceramic.

+ The Playfulness

What inspires me most of this serendipitous discovering game I play since 2006, is the beauty and apparent infinity of facial expressions I find, but also the intimate thoughts or stories I imagine to be part of their lives.

+ The Why

My goal regarding these sometimes far-out characters is not only that you recognize yourself or someone you know in their expressions or “attitudes”; that you identify with them as a being of beauty or that you recognize the beauty of intimate moments and the expressions they surface.

I want to reveal or mirror
the endless combinations of the same substance,
the substance that is you but also all the others.
Lines, colors and shapes vs. flesh, blood and bones
Equally beautiful, equally valuable

In order to “reveal”, the creative process is also the artwork.

+ What?

I’ve been defined as an intuitive painter.
I say I’m “Drawings Serendipities”

I trust that in every line I make and in every decision I take,
there’s something somebody wonderful waiting to be discovered.
